The Bouncing Souls at Starland Ballroom “How I Spent My Summer Vacation”

The Bouncing Souls was one of the very first concerts I took my son to at Starland Ballroom I believe it was about 7 or 8 years ago. I had him wedged in against the rail dead center of the stage. While they were setting up for the Souls my son had to go to the bathroom so the security guards lifted him over the rail and pointed him to the bathroom, I told him to come back the same way and ask the guards to lift him back over the rail as it was a packed house with no way of getting back to me through the crowd. Two minutes before the Souls were about to take the stage an announcement came over the loud speaker saying can the father of the young boy please come to the box office we have your son here. My first reaction was son of a b***h, I now had to fight my way through the crowd and we ended up standing all the way in the back for the set. My son is now 19 and wasn’t interested in being at this show but I was. I was so looking forward to this Bouncing Souls show that my son had to drive my wife and daughter to a family members sweet sixteen so I could be at Starland Ballroom. The Souls were playing the “How I Spent My Summer Vacation” album and other stuff so it was sure to be a great show. IMG_6889
The Souls did not disappoint, they always put on a fun show and allow us as photographers to shoot the whole set. The crowdsurfers were out in full force making us dodge bodies in every direction while the security guards caught them like circus acrobats.

The Souls had some awesome supporting bands on the show starting with an amazing cool one called Seaside Caves. They are a Neu-Wave/Post Punk band out of Asbury Park, NJ. As with the Souls they are under the Chunksaah record label. Being a huge fan of the 80’s music scene Seaside Caves are right up my alley.

Next up was Screaming Females a very exciting rock band from New Brunswick, NJ under the Don Giovanni record label. Some of the other photographers I shoot with are huge fans of Screaming Females and rave about them so my expectations were high and met with ease.

Andrew Jackson Jihad closed out the supporting bands with a blast. They were the only band on the bill I haven’t heard of before this night. They reside in Downtown Phoenix, Arizona and must have a great following because it seemed like everyone knew who they were and was screaming and crowdsurfing like crazy people.

Overall this was one of the funnest shows I have ever been to from start to finish
