Rock n Roll Heaven presents in association with the Old Bridge Metal Militia and Militia T’s King’s X, TT Quick, Atomic Bitchwax and Black Reign Saturday May 3rd at Starland Ballroom. This is a must see show that will be remembered forever. Mark Tornillo will be reuniting with his pre-accept band TT Quick for an awesome reunion show to take place at Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ. TT Quick will be joined by King’s X, Atomic Bitchwax and Black Reign. As a photographer I have had the pleasure of meeting numerous people involved with the making of this event as well as some members of the bands but I didn’t know much about the history behind it all. I have been learning more and more about how this local metal scene has become a very tight group of musicians, promoters and fans. One of the cool things for me is seeing so many old school styles of attire from t-shirts, jackets, patches and tattoos. A show like this brings everyone back to their hey day of screaming their heads off and raising their horns in the air. Looking forward to seeing some old and new friends as well as making new ones at this show. All the info below has been taken from the bands and affiliates facebook and website pages to have it all in one place. Please take the time to click on the links and share the event pages. Jon Zazula, also known as Jonny Z or Jon “the well is dry” Zazula is the owner of New Jersey’s legendary Rock’n Roll Heaven record store and founder of record label Megaforce Records. Zazula’s record store in East Brunswick, New Jersey made him a central figure of the East Coast metal scene, regularly playing demo tapes sent to him through his underground tape-trading network which included the likes of Brian Slagel of Metalblade Records, Ron Quintana (the editor of Metal Mania magazine), and producer Mark Whitaker. His central role in the East Coast metal scene would later be an essential factor in launching the career of Metallica. Zazula offered the band their first opportunity to play in the New York area and organized their first tours with Raven, one of the leading metal bands from the UK at that time. After hearing the demo tape No Life ‘Til Leather, he founded the label Megaforce Records to release their work. Zazula released Metallica’s debut album Kill ‘Em All and set up an East Coast tour with private funding. After the success of Kill ’em All, Zazula signed and worked with other artists including: Warren Haynes, Testament, Tad, Overkill, Frehley’s Comet, Kings X, Ministry, and Anthrax.
The Old Bridge Metal Militia were/are some of the most extreme metal heads hailing from Old Bridge, NJ. Over 30 years ago a group of friends opened their doors to upcoming bands like Metallica, Slayer, and Raven. The original Old Bridge Metal Militia would get these up and coming bands to play at parties in basements and the backs of stores. They were immortalized in the song “One Night in Old Bridge” on the Megaforce compilation “Born to Metalize” as well as Blessed Death’s song “Knights of Old Bridge”. The OBMM has also been mentioned in Rat Skates DVD “Get Thrashed” and Born in the Basement”.
In early 2011 Chris and Pattie Homeny decided it was time to put Old Bridge back on the metal map, and resurrected the Old Bridge Metal Militia creating the OBMM clothing line. Originally started as a FaceBook fan page to pay homage to what was 30 years ago, Chris and Pattie found that the music scene and bands welcomed their support and loyalty. Joining forces with metalheads like themselves, collectively they have been able to give the local scene a booster shot of support. The resurrected Old Bridge Metal Militia is about the brotherhood and camaraderie that is shared among all loyal music fans. The Militia is still alive and well with members and fans around the world and keeping to its roots you will see people wearing OBMM shirts at many shows supporting local metal scene. Check out this page as well as the Facebook friends page for info and links to some great local bands that are up and coming. To purchase merchandise, please visit www.oldbridgemetalmilitia.com.

The Atomic Bitchwax is a stoner rock band formed in New Jersey. Chris Kosnik, Finn Ryan, and Bob Pantella first started plotting their musical careers back in the mid 90s influenced by 70s rock and progressive groups ranging from Black Sabbath to Parliament Funkadelic. Simultaneously all three members where already playing for major labels in separate bands: Godspeed (Atlantic), Monster Magnet (A&M) and Core (Atlantic). The Atomic Bitchwax slowly evolved for fifteen years as a players band with the enduring vision to “play what you want”. Their music is a combination of 60s psychedelic rock, and 70s riff rock filtered though the progressive rock influences of today. Since their first release in 1999 ‘The Atomic Bitchwax’ on Tee Pee Records, they have toured every year in North America and Europe covering over 15 countries and continue to expand. In that time the band has released five more records including three full lengths. ‘TAB-2, 3 and 4’, two EPs ‘Spit Blood’, and ‘Boxriff’, which included a DVD live show filmed in Seattle’s Sunset Tavern.
