Lamour was one of the best rock/metal clubs back in the day, at least back in my day. Every band out there at one time or another played Lamour. Lamour opened up as a disco club in 1978 but transformed into a rock club in 1981 and lasted till 2004. It was promoted as the Rock Capital of Brooklyn. The club featured up and coming bands like Iron Maiden, Metalica, Megadeth and Kiss and was not afraid to book 10 or 12 opening acts for an all day rock fest. The list of bands that are well known today who played the club is to long to list. One of the most popular DJ’s from the club was Alex Kayne who started out as a mobile dj back in the 70’s. After winning a battle of the dj’s he quickly became very highly respected and the rest is history.
I was a frequent visitor at the club but I have to say I don’t remember much from those days. The 80’s were a time where anything went and you hoped you made it to the next day. I wish I was a band photographer back in the day with all the incredible acts that came through Lamour. Alex Kayne, Mark Schwartz and some of their friends wanted to have a Lamour reunion show 25 years later and so they did. It was held at The Cutting Room in NYC on Nov. 15th 2013. It featured a cool list of bands from the Lamour days like Frenchee, Stone Cold, Spread Eagle, Kill Van Kull and Sir Duke. There was a lot of old school rock/metal heads doing their best to still look and act like it was the 80’s. We were told to look forward to another show coming this spring, thanks guys for a fun night.
