This past weekend July 20th 2013 The 1st annual Jersey Shore Music Festival sizzled through Lakewood, NJ at First Energy Park. With 6 stages, over 50 bands, 150 artists and vendors of all kinds this was a music lovers dream day. I was one of the event photographers who loves to seek out old and new musical acts to photograph. This festival had so many local acts of all styles and genres. There was The Jersey Shore stage which featured bands like Papadosio, Hush Sound, River City Extension and The Front Bottoms. You had the Harrison/Lakehouse Stage with Only Living Boy, Empire Escorts, Crobots and Quincy Mumford and the Reason Why. There was the Skyland Stage with acts like Elevator Art, The Battery Electric and up and coming youngsters Giffords Lane. The Atlantic Stage had Eastbourne, End of an Era, Chemtrail and a cool band called Asphalt Green. The Garden Stage featured Anomaly, Loose Fit, Karmic Juggernaut and Midnight Mosaic. And Finally the Gateway Stage had Black Ocean, New Theory, Beyond Visible and Xero Gravity. Some of the sponsers included Restore The Shore, Lake House Recording, Magic Hat Brewing Company, Vita Coca, Reverbnation, Bands On A Budget, The Aquarian Weekly, Sam Ash, Red Bank Rehearsal Studio, 88.9 fm, Speak Into My Good Eye, 90.5 the night, Jam Base, Maria Mar Jersey Rock, WSOU, Fuchs and Arrius Studios. The best part of festivals for me is seeing some of the younger up and coming musical groups out there, The Jersey Shore Festival had plenty of them to see. Everywhere you walked there was a band playing or an artist to check out. Karnevil and The Unholy Sideshow provided some cool freakshow acts in between band sets. From whips and chains, a bed of nails to a little person hanging upside down in a straight jacket. The only down side was the heat, it was sizzling hot with a chance of thunder showers all day and night. The rain held up but it took about 12 fruit flavored iced teas to keep me going through out the day. Unfortunately thunder and lightning caused the festival to be stopped just as the last band on each stage started to perform. The decision was made for the safety of everyone and one that had to be made. By the end of the night I was physically exhausted but had an amazing time with all the music, fans and friends that always make me feel welcomed.
